Director of Operations

Purpose of Role:


Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, Weir Motion Metrics Director of Operations oversees all manufacturing: global services, sales operations, safety, health, and environment (SHE); sourcing, planning and procurement.


In addition, this role directly supervises, sets direction, and owns performance metrics for multiple teams and will be a critical strategic leader as Motion Metrics grows and evolves.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Leadership: Direct leadership and owner of Motion Metrics operations and team management. Manages the ESCO Motion Metrics Operations function, which includes multiple departments (Mid-Level, leading other managers, supervising others). These Departments include Manufacturing, Sourcing and purchasing, Global Services, and Sales Operations.
  • Business Performance Management: Accountable for Motion Metrics performance metrics, for manufacturing, sourcing and purchasing, global services, sales operations and SHE. Manage and report on the performance of Motion Metrics Operations; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives. Achieves financial objectives by forecasting needs, preparing a budget, and managing expenditures.
  • Strategy & Planning: Implement Motion Metrics Operations Strategy to help achieve the ESCO Division Operations priorities, anticipating complex issues, challenges, and opportunities. Ensure the strategy is successful. Develop and gain agreement to annual business plans for Motion Metrics Operations, ensuring alignment with strategy; quantify business outcomes (i.e., production volume or other key performance indicators); detail expense and headcount budgets; and develop business cases for key projects, ensuring cross-functional integration. Communicate the function’s strategy and its relationship to Weir’s mission, vision, and values; clarify the actions needed to implement it within the area of responsibility; motivate people to commit to these and do extraordinary things to achieve the ESCO Division’s strategic priorities
  • Stakeholder Management: Identify and manage stakeholders, finding their needs/issues/concerns and reacting to these by leading and coordinating the development of stakeholder engagement plans to support the communication of business information and decisions.
  • Business Development: Identify the capabilities needed to meet the current and emerging business needs of ESCO Division’s Motion Metrics Operations by evaluating current capabilities, identifying gaps, and prioritizing development activities.

Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering or similar applicable field from a four-year college or university. A Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Ten + years of progressive experience in business industry, operations, manufacturing, or technical sales leadership is required. Substantial P&L responsibility over the last ten years.
  • Must have demonstrated experience in developing and implementing manufacturing operations strategy—ability to effectively read and understand detailed financial statements.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to share and engage others in the vision of the business.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to create short, mid, and long-term strategies.
  • Must be results-oriented and demonstrate the ability to meet critical metrics.
  • Substantial experience in managing international inter-company relationships and an inter-company value chain.

Compensation: $156,376- 185,000 CAD

Actual compensation packages are determined by several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to job-related skills, depth of experience, certifications, relevant education or training, and specific work location.
