This job posting is for an Engineer 5 (see descriptions below). Here are some rough guidelines for each role.


Engineer 5 - Staff Engineer ($169,700 - $212,100)

An Engineer 5 is an expert in their domain and a technical leader at Bench. They are charged with increasing the quality of Bench Engineering through direct contribution, mentorship, process innovation, defining/implementing conventions, and finding alignment in principles that ensure we consistently make good decisions. They are accountable for the security, reliability, and performance of all our systems.


What does the Product Engineering team look like?

The Product Engineering team works closely with Product and Design to build technology that creates growth opportunities for Bench. This can be in the form of new products, or in improvements to existing products and workflows. They are key players in executing both our Technical and Product Roadmaps.


What you’ll need:

  • We’re searching for a Staff Front End Engineer who has expertise in advocating for and designing longterm technology roadmaps
  • Experience leading Front End development and guiding technology decisions
  • Expertise in ReactJS or other component based web frameworks and architecture
  • Expertise in GraphQL and/or REST
  • Experience designing web application architectures
  • Experience building and owning design systems
  • Experience with front end automated testing (we use Cypress at Bench, but we’re not picky on the tool you have experience with)
  • A resonance with our Bench and Technology principles


It could be an even better fit if you have:

  • Expertise in Typescript and NodeJS
  • Expertise in CSS (we use Styled Components and Stitches)
  • Expertise in AWS technologies—specifically serverless
  • Expertise with bundlers such as Vite
  • Experience with build automations technology such as Github Actions


What you’ll get:

  • If you live in the Vancouver lower mainland area, you have the opportunity to work at home and in our downtown office location, depending on your preference!
  • For folks working fully remote, we will provide additional solutions to bring teams together for collaboration and connection.
  • Whether you get to use the office or if you work remotely, you’ll have access to our Home Office Setup Fund to ensure that you have everything you need to work comfortably from home, from day one.
  • We currently focus our hiring efforts in the following provinces: British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia.
  • You will also have the opportunity to work internationally for up to 90 days per calendar year.
