Solutions Engineer


Primarily provides pre-sales technical support for the development and implementation of complex products/applications/solutions. Uses in-depth product knowledge to provide technical expertise to sales staff and the customer through sales presentations and product demonstrations. Assists the sales staff in assessing potential application of company products to meet customer needs and may prepare detailed product specifications for the development and implementation of customer products/applications/solutions. May create detailed design and implementation specifications for complex products/applications/solutions. May build a mini-application based on customer requirements to demonstrate feasibility of the application, often requiring rapid prototyping and/or product demo for client. May provide consultation to prospective users and/or product capability assessment and validation.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The Wireless Solutions Engineer will be responsible for providing pre-sales technical support for Wireless RAN and Core test products for current and potential Viavi North American customers through direct and indirect channels. The focus will be on Wireless technologies and products that encompass Base Station design and applications, test methodologies using UE emulators along with vRAN and Core elements for Core Test. This assignment will be focused on North America and will be designed to drive business in Wireless Service Providers, Equipment Manufacture, System Integrator and government contracts.

This will include providing technical presentations to audiences of all levels and clear articulation of the potential benefits the current or potential customer may receive from Viavi Solutions products. In addition to pre-sales and post-sales technical support, the Wireless Solutions Consultant will work to identify technical enhancements with high ROI potential and work closely with Product Management to ensure a proper understanding of each request. Lastly, the Solutions Consultant will work as a key component inside of the sales organization and be responsible for documenting best-practices and knowledge sharing among peers.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Technical expertise in Wireless networks, technologies, UE’s and test techniques including
  • Base Station test techniques, 5G, ORAN, EPC, IP and security. Be looked at as a consultant to the customer by demonstrating expertise in the products, product applications and value.
  • Lead responses to issued RFP/RFI’s in the region
  • Drive the product/feature enhancement requests for the specified named account(s) within Viavi Solutions.
  • Lead high level and detailed technical consultation for the specified named account(s).
  • Assist marketing organization on developing the technical sales presentations and value propositions used by all sales teams and personally deliver these presentations and value propositions to customers when necessary.
  • Assist Product Marketing and Development in identifying and prioritizing solutions required to meet customers’ demands.
  • Perform in-depth and high-level technical presentations for the specified named account(s).
  • Lead pilot, trial or proof-of-concept projects with the specified named account(s).
  • Fully understand and be able to defeat competitive solutions.
  • Participate in all system engineering tracking mechanisms

Pre-Requisites / Skills / Experience Requirements:

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in Wireless Networks with a strong technical background in it day to day operations
  • 5+ years experience providing technical sales support in a solution oriented software and/or hardware environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively listen, solve problems and provide reassurance to internal and external customers.
  • Proven track record contributing to the account team’s revenue targets.
  • Successful history of driving results & recognized as a key contributor in his/her prior role
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate with company executives and leadership team members
  • The ability to define long term vision while keeping track of short term execution and results.
  • The ability to give effective presentations and demonstrations to a diverse audience.
  • The ability to communicate technical concepts to extremely technical and non-technical individuals.
