Senior Technical Data Analyst

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time Senior Technical Analyst (Data Engineer) in the Innovation and Technology Group. Reporting to the Manager, Business Intelligence, the successful candidate will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture, as well as optimizing data flow and collection for cross functional teams. The Data Engineer will support our digital transformation team, Datahub architecture and data scientists on data initiatives. The right candidate will be excited to join a fast past, dynamic team and be part of re-designing our company’s architecture to support our digital transformation journey and the development of our advanced analytics capability. 


Key responsibilities include: 

  • Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and Azure cloud services. 
  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights to enhance passenger experience and increase operational efficiencies.
  • Develop processes and documentation for data collection and integration
  • Collaborate and create data tools for advanced analytics and data science team members that assist in building and optimizing our digital products and machine learning models. 
  • Create, maintain, and enhance dashboards and other visualizations for stakeholders.
  • Work with stakeholders at all levels to assist with data related technical issues and support our data infrastructure needs. 
  • Collaborate with our Information Security team on securing our data sources.
  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements; by automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, and ensuring our data infrastructure is scalable.
  • Establish methods and procedures for tracking data quality, completeness, redundancy, and improvement
  • Provide day-to-day support and technical expertise to both technical and non-technical teams


Key qualifications include: 

  • At least 7 years’ post degree experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise-data architecture and environments for medium to large sized organizations, plus at least 5 years of advanced analytics and project management experience (senior level)
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases. 
  • A strong background in technology with experience in data engineering, data warehouse development, or software development looking to move into the big data environment.
  • Working experience with Azure, Databricks, Denodo, Snowflakes and Qlik would be preferred.
  • Experience with data integration using APIs
  • Computer programming skills, R, Python, Java, JSON, HTML, SQL
  • Strong project management skills, using waterfall and agile methodologies. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral
  • Excellent documentation skills, including workflow documentation

Living Wage for Families B.C. has determined the hourly rate of pay at which a household can meet its basic expenses. The 2022 living wage rate in Metro Vancouver is $20.52.
