The Controller is an integral position and reports directly to the CEO. This position is responsible for supporting a broad and hands-on scope of accounting duties, including leading a small team. As we continue to bring more accounting tasks in-house, the Controller will initially be focused on process development and will be very hands-on.


The successful candidate will be self-driven, reliable and an excellent team player. This is an ideal opportunity for a high-performing Senior Accountant looking to take the next step in their career, or a current Controller looking to apply their experience in a new environment and continue to develop their skills.


What You'll Do

  • Are excited with scale and hundreds of entities - you get that technology is the key to unlocking growth with a full set of hair.
  • Manage and build the finance team.
  • Understand US tax law and can help us open up this market.
  • Act as a collaborative business partner to the leadership team.
  • Weekly cash flow reporting - manage addy’s cash flow and work with the leadership team and board to develop and maintain investment policies.
  • Develop and implement a universal monthly reporting package
  • Design and implement internal controls process and drive improvement in internal controls so as to minimize overall risk
  • Lead the annual budgets process and provide quarterly forecasts including variance analysis to the leadership team and the board
  • Managing the accounting of addy technology corp and its subsidiaries
  • Work with the Engineering Department to ensure appropriate financial reports can be generated for new product developments
  • Manage, oversee and maintain external grants and fundings
  • Responsible for the company insurance program ensuring that appropriate coverage is in place
  • Assist Operations Department with Human Resources and extended health benefits for employees
  • Play advisory role to other departments in financial and accounting matters
  • Prepare all necessary documents for the Annual General Meeting and board of directors meetings
  • Manage year end audit and tax filings with external auditors and tax advisors
  • Manage and comply with provincial and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings for addy, its subsidiaries and issuances such as T4, T5, EHT, PST/GST/QST, Worksafe BC
  • Manage regulatory filing requirements to be compliant with securities law (Draft and file regulatory reporting such as RED report and F16)
  • Manage full cycle accounting including accounts payable, generating monthly financial statements and processing semi-monthly payrolls; Month end close within 7 days
  • Document all processes, memos etc. in Notion so that they can be followed by the entire company
  • Maintain accounting software chart of accounts and ensure consistent and accurate application of coding guidelines
  • Preparation, review and analysis of monthly financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Managing and reconciling intercompany transactions
  • Developing staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships
  • Review payroll, vacation accruals and sick days


What You Need to Know

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) and membership in good standing with CPABC
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience
  • Proven track record in providing full cycle accounting
  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience with industry experience
  • Experience working in a high growth start-up and/or owner-operated business (preferred)
