Electrical Technologist (T2)

Vancouver, BC

Ballard has an opening for an Electrical Technologist (T2) to join the Systems Electrical Engineering Team. The successful candidate will work well with existing engineering staff, be capable of independent work, and contribute to developing Ballard’s fuel cell system products.


Responsibilities:

  • Prototyping, re-working, and repairing of HV and LV cable and harnessing assemblies
  • Prototyping, repairing, and reworking of electronic PCBA’s
  • Verification of wire harnessing through analysis and testing
  • Verification of electronic circuits and assemblies through analysis and testing
  • Failure analysis of electrical and electronic assemblies
  • Supporting the design, packaging, and verification of electrical systems for fuel cell engines in road vehicles
  • Select and source electrical components for electronic PCBA’s and harnessing assemblies
  • Troubleshooting/resolution of existing electrical components and systems
  • Assist in the preparation of technical documents, including test procedures, test reports, design specifications, and component/system design requirements
  • Prepare and/or review technical documents

 

Requirements:

  • Must have a technical diploma or engineering degree from an Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics program
  • Must have at least 4 years experience in an electrical technology field
  • Experience with low-voltage and high-voltage DC systems
  • Demonstrate a willingness to work safely
  • Experience with circuit board design and electronic assemblies
  • Knowledge of conductor sizing and ampacity calculations
  • Ability to crimp automotive-style connectors
  • Troubleshooting skills with DMMs, Hi-Pot testers, insulation testers, and oscilloscopes
  • Electrical prototyping skills including bread-boarding, soldering, basic skills with mechanical tools such as drills, grinders, wrenches
  • Be competent and comfortable working with computers and spreadsheets
  • Demonstrated capability for critical thinking
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Effective communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills to interface with team members to promote positive outcomes
  • Ability to work in a multi-functional team environment


Additional Consideration:

  • Experience with Altium PCB Design Software
  • Knowledge of fuel cell technology
  • Experience working in manufacturing automotive cable or wire harness assemblies
  • Experience with instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, and flow measurement devices
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC)
  • Knowledge of the IPC wire harness and electronic standards such as IPC-620/IPC610
  • Certified or eligible for certification with AScT
